Year Two's Beach Trip to Omana
The Year Twos had a wonderful day at Omana Beach. The bus ride was so much fun and we arrived eager to explore the rock pools. We ate our morning tea as soon as we arrived and then had a talk from Mags the Beach Ranger to explain how our day was going to be organised. We were split into groups and assigned our own ranger who was able to explain lots of interesting things about the beach before we headed off to find all those little sea creatures we had been learning about. We also had a walk around the perimeter of the park past the swampy mangroves and up to the look out where we got an amazing view all the way to Rangitoto and the Skytower. There were lots of tired little people on the bus on the way home. A big shout out to all the wonderful parent helpers who gave up their day to help us keep safe and enjoy our day. Thanks so much. We are so lucky at BDS to have so many parents who are willing to help. From Mrs Macro :-)
Room 9's adventure to Eastern Beach
.
Our group built a volcano too, with lava coming out of the top, then we made a village beside it with a lake and everything!!!
Look at all the rubbish ID's group collected.
Look at all the rubbish SR's and AW's group got.
ZW's and CG's group found heaps as well, they filled their bag right up.
DH's, ZS's & KX's group found all sorts of rubbish on the beach.
ND & EM were very proud of how much the cleaned up.
On the way home in the bus everyone was pretty tired, that sea air sure does tucker you out.
Needless to say we all slept well that night.
Maths Problem Solving in Room 7
Today we worked out a maths problem by using materials to support our thinking. The problem was: If I have 5 cars altogether and 2 cars are outside the garage, how many cars will be inside the garage? We made cars out of blocks and drew a garage on our whiteboards and then showed our maths thinking with materials. Then we showed it in numbers. We had lots of mathematical discussion around our thinking. We tried the same problem with ten cars too.
